Single Session Combined Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS), Magnetic Field, and Light Therapy by A Multifunctional Device in Pain Management After Acute Soft Tissue Injuries Among Athletes_ A Case-Control Study in Sweden

A LipusPlus study conducted between February and May 2023 investigated the efficacy of a multifunctional device in managing pain following acute soft tissue injuries among athletes. This device combined Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS), magnetic field therapy, infrared and blue light.

The study, comprising of one hundred athletes with various soft tissue injuries, utilised the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to measure pain intensity and compared outcomes between the LipusPlus therapy group and a Sham group. Results unveiled a significant difference in pain reduction, with the LipusPlus therapy demonstrating a remarkable impact. The LipusPlus group exhibited a substantial decrease in VAS scores (2.460 on the VAS scale) in contrast to the Sham group (0.120 on the VAS scale), indicating superior pain management outcomes.

Importantly, no adverse events were reported throughout the study, highlighting the safety of the LipusPlus therapy. The findings underscore the potential of combination therapy with devices like LipusPlus as a safe and effective alternative for early pain management among athletes with acute soft tissue injuries. This approach addresses athletes' specific requirements for swift recovery and offers a promising synergistic effect of multiple modalities. The study suggests that combination therapy could become a valuable addition to the physiotherapy and sports medicine toolkit, offering athletes a pathway to expedited healing and enhanced performance.
